The Attention Economy

In the modern world, you are not the customer of social media apps; you are the product. Your attention is harvested and sold to advertisers. This has led to a "crisis of focus" where deep thinking is becoming increasingly rare.

What is Digital Minimalism?

Popularized by Cal Newport, digital minimalism is a philosophy where you focus your online time on a small number of carefully selected activities that strongly support the things you value.

1. The Social Media "Declutter"

Uninstall the apps that don't add genuine value to your life. If you need them for work, use them on a desktop computer instead of your phone. This creates "friction" that prevents mindless scrolling.

2. Embrace High-Quality Leisure

When we are tired, we default to "low-quality" leisure: scrolling, Netflix, or gaming. Digital minimalism suggests replacing these with high-quality activities: reading a physical book, learning a craft, or spending time in nature.

3. The "Do Not Disturb" Default

Your phone should be a tool you use, not a master that calls you. Turn off all non-human notifications. You don't need a buzz every time someone likes a photo.

4. Scheduled "Analog" Hours

Choose a time each day (e.g., after 8 PM) where all screens are turned off. This allows your brain to "downshift" and prepares you for deep rest.

Minimalism isn't about giving up technology; it's about Refactoring your relationship with it. Use the AnythingSimply methodology to filter out the noise and focus on what truly matters.
